During the decision making process of which school to go to for Station, we thought we would check out Minnesota. It was actually a really cool place and we even got to talk to a guy who trains women olympic hopefuls on the flight there. Oh. And the plane took off when it was supposed to.
I didn't take many pictures because I didn't want to be the weird wife that was following the soon-to-be student around and telling him to smile while I added a sepia tone affect to the photo. It was a cool campus, huge library, and tunnels underground for the winter. Everyone says that their winter is cold. stop it. I get it. I understand that it gets cold out there, but they go all out. Anything that has to be outside (i.e. bus stop) is heated. But it was a really cool place.
When we first got there, we kind of got lost, but were lucky enough to be surrounded by kind, HUGE thugs until a cab magically pulled up to our rescue. Then as the cab driver was discussing how cold it was there (fine. i get it.) I was squished behind his seat while his entire body envelloped the front half of the car. Then when we realized we had no cash, he proceeded to go through the bank ATM spot the wrong way, while a cop car was looking on. Finally, we get to our hotel only to be locked out of the front door because it locks at ten. a very comforting thought. as we were trying to figure out how to get in, the front desk attendant watched on. I am not sure what type of thieves Minnesota creates, but I don't think they looked like two lost humans with luggage, but I could be wrong. Finally, we were deemed innocent and let in and given our key. Once we got to our smoke free floor we were thrown down and smacked in the face by the over powerful stench of smoke. Which didn't end in our room. We unpacked all of our things and went to bed. In the morning, we decided that maybe, toenails (that were not ours) on the floor was the final piece of creepy that we could handle and moved hotels like a bunch of west coast snobs. The rest of the trip was a blast. We got to walk across the river every morning and sit in the cold classrooms.
One day we skipped classes and went to a Twin Cities baseball game. It was a huge stadium, and is supposed to be the best one in the US. I don't remember if they won, but it was fun. There were people following the game by filling out a score sheet. I think that would create some hoarding issues. We walked around and later that night we went to dinner at Hell's Kitchen. No, not the tv show. It was very creepy and had scary haligraphic pictures in the bathroom. We sat at a booth that had writing on the wall that said those seats are the most dangerous in the whole restaurant. So we got free cinnamon rolls. The wall said we could. Also, that place made me fall in love with hot cakes. I crave those puppies every day. THEN, we went to the Timberwolves game. Talk about sports central. We even got to bring in our cinnamon rolls!
Minnesota was a great place and I really sometimes think about what an awesome place it would have been to move to. But Provo is the place for us right now and we will go and have fun and be happy there. Even if I dream of those hot cakes every night.
